BIO
Ewa is a painter and printmaker based in Paris. Her primary focus are the landscapes of the Highlands of Scotland and Ireland where expressive colours and intricate textures come together in an atmospheric way.
Her work explores the tension between navigating the modern world and a longing for wilderness. Her creative process involves painting and sketching en plein air, as well as working from her own photographs taken during her travels.
Ewa’s work has been exhibited in Paris and London, most notably at the Grand Palais during the Salon des Artistes Français 2026 and the Bankside Gallery during the International Original Print Exhibition organised by the Royal Society of Printmakers in 2024 and 2025. Her oil paintings have also drawn the attention of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, with a pre-selection in 2025. Her distinctive artistic voice was recognised by ‘Artists & Illustrators’ magazine, which featured a two-page interview on her work in its April 2024 issue.
STATEMENT
My work is driven by the tension between modern life and an innate, persistent longing for wildness. I am drawn to the paradoxes that arise from this encounter: while the organised modern world amplifies a sense of alienation and makes us acutely aware of what has been lost through our separation from organic rhythms, nature remains both sanctuary and abyss—solace and threat, a source of belonging and a reminder of our smallness. I am interested in how the wild never truly disappears, instead persisting within our inner world. I paint to explore the ways in which the natural world lives on within us—calling us back, challenging us, and reminding us of our place within a vast and complex whole.
TECHNIQUES
When it comes to oil painting, I find myself drawn to the classical approach of building colour intensity and luminosity through a warm underpainting, a grisaille and a succession of subsequent semi-translucent layers of pigment to obtain a glossy, gemlike vibrance and depth in color. How colours that come to life with the juxtaposition between light and shadow within a space is what I love most about oil paint.
Linocutting on the other hand allows me to focus primarily on intricate texture and shape. I love the rhythm that nature creates through the repetition of certain shapes and getting to physically reproduce the process by carving it out from a linoblock is something I enjoy in linoprinting very much. Thinking in terms of “areas” of colour also helps me to play around with the way that I compose my design and perceive color. My multicolor reduction relief print are created through a long process of superimposition of layers of semi-transparent ink to create depth and texture.
