Black Bull of Norroway
This design is inspired by yet another Scottish folk-tale I adore: three daughters of a washerwoman set off on a journey to seek their fortune. A witch advises them that they should start looking out their back door. While the first two each see a coach, the last girl discovers a black bull that she must accompany. The bull turns out to be kind and gentle and takes her to a castle. In a moment of need, she abandons the bull, who is unable to get back to her. The third daughter has to wander alone as a servant for seven years before she comes apon a knight and saves him only to discover he was … the bewitched black bull!

The design is drawn by hand straight onto the lino block, then carefully carved out of it, inked with a roller before finally being printed onto a selected luxury Japanese paper by hand using a baren.
Please beware that all prints are individually hand printed and will therefore have each minor variations and imperfections - this is part of the magic of lino printing!
